![]() ![]() I listened to the audiobook and the performer was delightful to listen to, if not at times a bit breathy and plaintive, like she was going to start crying at any moment. ![]() ![]() Got more "adult" in a few scenes than I was expecting, so that along with the sparse use of cursing convinced me this wasn't the YA type of thing I first thought it might be when it was suggested. If this book was a fairy tale character it would be the Baby Bear from Goldilocks, because everything was "just right." A perfect read moving into Summer. The girls are never too exhausting, the "villain" never too villainous, the flights of fancy never too fanciful not to be taken seriously. There's drama, but it never gets too dramatic. There's a lovely, fanciful, dancing tone to all of this, and Mandanna adroitly paints a picture of locations you want to spend time in and creates characters you want to spend time with. Sangu Mandanna is the author of The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches, Kiki Kallira Breaks a Kingdom, and several other novels about magic, monsters and myths. ![]()
